Hoagy Wing has been performing as a professional percussionist since 1980 and currently resides in the Philadelphia Suburbs . Hoagy specializes in Middle Eastern Percussion, Popular Percussion, Rudimental Drumming, as well performing on his Dumbek, Snare Drum, Drum Kit & Banjo . Hoagy is currently teaching music at The Crefeld School, a private alternative educational institution for middle and upper school students in Chestnut Hill, PA . Hoagy currently serves as the Drum Master for the Philadelphia Fife & Drum, and he has, since 1995, been a regular performer at Independence National Historic Park in Philadelphia, Valley Forge National Historic Battlefield, and can be seen currently escorting dignitaries like the Honorable Mayor John Street, Governor Ed Rendell, Homeland Security Director Tom Ridge, Vice-President & Mrs . Dick Cheney, Presidents Bill Clinton and George Bush, as well as celebrities like Ben Franklin, Bobby Rydell, Willard Scott and Don King in places from The Philadelphia Convention Center to Fort Mifflin to Philadelphia’s famous Union League . Hoagy is involved with instructing the drum line of the 28th Pennsylvania Volunteers Civil War reenactment unit of the Mifflin Guard as well as McClellan’s Rangers(104thPA) . And he played as a member of the Rose Tree Pops Symphony Orchestra from 1989-1992 . Hoagy has had the honor of studying with some wonderful teachers including William H . Reamer, Mark Beecher, Joseph Tayoun & Layne Redmond . Hoagy Wing has a BA Cum Laude in Economics from Gettysburg College.

“Giving Back” through instruction is a very important concept for Hoagy . He enjoys teaching privately in students’ homes and served as Drum Coach & Percussion Arranger at Marple Newtown Senior High School in Newtown Square, PA from 1992 through 2002 . He is pleased to have worked as an accompanist with noted Philadelphia dance instructor Miriam Giguere on a project supported by Young Audiences that provides inner city kids with a “hands on” learning experience with dancing & drumming . Hoagy has devised and coordinated several “in school” assemblies presenting children with programs like: “It’s a Wonderfully Percussive World .”, “ America : A Multicultural Musical Melting Pot .”, as well as “The Role of Music in Military History” . He has been honored to have recently performed several of these programs in the city of Philadelphia and Lancaster, PA, Kansas City, KS and Kansas City, MO . Hoagy is pleased to continue to be a staff artist with the Artist In Residence Program (New Hope-Solebury and Council Rock PA School Districts & South Hunterdon and Princeton NJ School Districts) . He has been involved with the Raven’s Run Arts Camp in New Hope, PA, for four years as an instructor, now as a visiting artist . Hoagy was selected to give a percussion advisory workshop for the 1999 Indie Music Forum in New York City and presented “Middle Eastern Rhythms & Instruments in Contemporary Applications” . The workshop went so well that Hoagy was invited to present this program as part of the 2000 Philadelphia Music Conference, and the 2003 Bryn Mawr Music Festival .

Performance Highlights Hoagy has had the privilege of playing on stages with some top national acts with some of the bands that he plays with including: Moloko PLUS opening for Elton John, The 2H Club opening for Barry Manilow, as well as CORY opening for Bela Fleck & the Flecktones and The Dave Matthews Band at the Sony Entertainment Center in Camden . Hoagy with Slo-Mo has opened for Maceo Parker at the TLA in Philly and for Cyro Baptiste (Trey Anastasio) and his “Beat The Donkey” ensemble at the Rittenhouse Square Concert series (Summer 2003) . With Butch Ross, Hoagy had the privilege to open for Moxy Fruvous and play to a sold out Trocadaro Theater .

He has appeared on NBC's Today Show with the Colonial Phila . Fife & Drum Companie, and played at the Spectrum in Phila . with Moloko PLUS as well as Ointment . Playing with the Steve Pepper Band Hoagy appeared on the Tim Qualls Show on Delaware’s Channel 28; with the 28 th PA Civil War reenactment group Hoagy arranged authentic drum music, trained musicians and performed for the PBS WNET special “Remembering Slavery . “ With the Lauren Hart Band, Hoagy got to open for Philadelphia's own Hall & Oates during Monday Night Football's Eagles / 49ers game in 1997 . Hoagy got to “drum in” the colors while representing Philadelphia at the opening ceremonies of the Republican National Convention in the summer of 2000 with the Phila . Fife & Drum . During the Convention, they were also featured in a segment on Philadelphia’s Historic sites on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno .

Hoagy has traveled to 19 states touring with the duo Mia Johnson & Hoagy (MJ&H) and additionally to Missouri, Kansas & California with Julia Othmer . In February of 2002, Hoagy took part in a two-week dance accompaniment residency with the world-renowned Jawaahir dance troupe in Minneapolis, MN . Hoagy played Middle Eastern & North African percussion with the group Gypsophila for the residency that was funded by the National Endowment for the Arts as well as a grant from the Minnesota legislature . The group played Eastern European, Klezmer, Middle Eastern, Russian & Balkan Gypsy styles for the dancers . In June of 2003, with Julia Othmer, Hoagy had the distinction of playing at Philadelphia’s prestigious Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts. On July 7 th, 2003 Hoagy appeared in the Time magazine feature “Being Ben Franklin” (http://www .time .com/time/2003/franklin/photoessay/7 .html) .

Hoagy’s main current projects include Julia Othmer, Slo-Mo, Phila . Fife & Drum, Gypsophilia, David Newman, Moloko PLUS, The Salty Dogs, WEEZ DINK, Valley Forge Fife & Drum, The 2H Club, the Slave Labor Acoustic Trio and Sorraya’s Traveling Troubadours . Hoagy can also be found sitting in on percussion and/or banjo with Marah, Steve Pepper, Nancy Falcow, Kiss Kiss Kill, Pepper’s Ghost, Stargazer Lily, Christine Havrilla, Hurdi Gurdi, Screwloose, Ben Arnold, Four Way Street, One Star Hotel, Dave Cope, Butch Ross, Jenn Hess, The Hip Hop Hoodios, Mano Lowtay, Buck Doyle’s Cast of Characters, as well as Shakey & the Boogiemen .
